Michael King

Michael has been working with the Pilates technique for over 27 years. He originally worked with the technique as a dancer at the London School of Contemporary Dance.

From there he went onto to train with Alan Herdman, the first teacher to bring Pilates from America to the UK. In 1982 he opened his own studio, Body Control Studio, in connection with the newly formed Pineapple Dance Studios in Convent Garden London.

Two years later he was offered a position in Texas managing the Pilates studio at the Houston Ballet Company where he stayed until 1990. Michael also worked in the Voight Center in LA for five years, and many other Pilates Studios in Los Angeles including the Winsor Pilates Studios. He moved back to Europe in 1995 where following a two year contract in Switzerland he returned to London.

Michael's reputation as a renowned presenter both in Fitness and Pilates. has been established since 1980. His is the founding director of the Pilates Institute in London and his Pilates programs are taught in over 26 countries worldwide.

He is the author of many best selling books on Pilates and with his involvement with the Physiotherapy market the Pilates Institute Method is widely used within the rehabilitation fields.

In 2002 OCR (Oxford and Cambridge) the governing body in the UK added the Pilates Institute Method to its curriculum and the training became the first Pilates Course accredited by a governing body.

Michael has also been instrumental in creating the new level 3 standard in the UK and most recently been invited to be on the panel of the newly formed IDEA Pilates Task Force to facilitate an new register of international instructors worldwide.
